Ultimately, Criss and his Finch are more than enough. While they both began timidly, Finch climbing his way up the corporate ladder and Criss finding his footing on his first Broadway stage, when the curtain went down for the last time, the audience was sure of and delighted in both of their success.

Finch began as a window washer with a book and a dream and Criss began on YouTube with a guitar and song. Watching an elated Criss, on the final night of his first Broadway run, deliver the last lines of a victorious Finch, J.B. Biggley’s closing words rang true for both men: “This youngster’s rise has been spectacularly rapid.”

For the audience, who laughed, cheered, and cried, it was a joy to watch them both rise with sincerity, wide-eyed ambition, and a little luck. While Criss’ stint as J. Pierrepont Finch has come to an end all too soon, what he was able to accomplish in three weeks is a testament to his talent and commitment to his craft. It is uncertain when Darren Criss will return to the stage, but rest assured, in the words of the man himself, “We will see you next time, on Broadway.
